The Maumee Environmental and Tree Advisory Commission, in partnership with the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, will host a free public screening of The Street Project on Tuesday, May 5, at the Maumee Indoor Theater. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the film will begin at 6:30 p.m. A panel discussion with local experts will follow.
The Street Project explores the growing movement to make streets safer for all users. The documentary traces a troubling trend identified by road safety specialists: since 2009, pedestrian deaths in the United States have risen by 51 percent. Globally, road injuries are projected to cost the world economy $1.8 trillion between 2015 and 2030. The film examines the root causes of traffic violence and highlights citizen led efforts to build safer, more connected communities.
PANEL DISCUSSION:
Following the screening (52 minutes), attendees are invited to stay for a panel discussion featuring four local leaders working to improve safety, mobility, and community well being:
• Nicole Fuizzotti, President of Toledo Area Bicyclists (TAB) and cycling advocate focused on distracted driving awareness, cycling education, and safe streets initiatives across Northwest Ohio.
• Mac Driscoll, At Large member of Toledo City Council, urban planner, and former ConnectToledo planner specializing in downtown revitalization.
• Dan Arnold, Interim Law Director for the City of Maumee and former municipal prosecutor with experience in code enforcement and public safety legal matters.
• Chief Josh Sprow, Maumee Police Chief, who has served the community for 25 years in roles ranging from patrol officer to detective, sergeant, lieutenant, assistant chief, and now chief.
This event is free and open to the public. Community members, families, cyclists, pedestrians, and anyone interested in safer streets and stronger neighborhoods are encouraged to attend
