Improvements are underway at the Robert Hoag Ford Field, making it even more inviting for families, children, and the entire community.

A new play set – the Nature Play Treehouse – will be installed this fall. The structure will feature a variety of fun and engaging elements, including two enclosed spiral tube slides, a rock-climbing wall, a crawl-through log tunnel, and more. In addition, a rubber surface material will be used to provide a more durable and long-lasting option to better serve children and adults with all abilities. New fencing and benches for seating will also be installed.

Your Patience is Appreciated During Construction

To help prepare the site, a six-foot-wide concrete walkway has been installed to connect the backfield area to the Ford Street restrooms. A new storm sewer was also added to address persistent flooding issues near the site of the old playset, which was originally installed in 2003.

The total estimated cost for the project is approximately $350,000, and the City of Maumee has secured a $91,544 NatureWorks grant to offset those costs.

We sincerely appreciate your patience during construction and look forward to celebrating the grand opening of the new play structure later this year.

Additional Upgrades

In addition to the play structure, the installation of a new basketball court with two adjustable hoops will be completed in June. At a size slightly larger than the typical half-court, the basketball court allows greater access for green space and the new play structure.

New dugouts have been installed in the backfield, and a second storage building will be constructed to accommodate more equipment and increased activity at the ball diamonds.  The new storage building is still in the planning stage, and a construction date has not been set.
