Full-Time Firefighter/Paramedic – New Hire

The City of Maumee is accepting applications for Full-Time Firefighter/Paramedics.  This is an informational sheet only and does not represent an employment agreement between the City of Maumee and any applicant for a job position nor does it guarantee you a position as a Full-Time employee. 

Required Qualifications:

The Firefighter/Paramedic candidate must possess and maintain current (copies to be provided):

  • Must be minimum 18 years at time of application.
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Valid Ohio driving privileges and remain insurable under the City of Maumee’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • State of Ohio Firefighter I or II
  • State of Ohio Paramedic
  • Hazardous Materials Operations level
  • Related certifications to include CPR, ACLS, etc. as required.

Hiring Process

All candidates shall possess the proper certifications and pass all noted items listed below.  Completion of these steps does not guarantee employment. 

  1. City of Maumee Application:  Complete a “City of Maumee Application for Employment”.  Link found here.  Applications can be obtained at the City of Maumee Human Resources Department, 400 Conant St., Maumee, OH 43537.  You can also email hr@maumee.org.

  2. Verification and Submission:  Application, physical agility, and applicable certifications, licenses, etc. to be verified by City of Maumee.   Applications and all associated documentation can either be submitted in person to City of Maumee Human Resources Department, 400 Conant St., Maumee, OH 43537, or submitted by email to hr@maumee.org

  3. Verification: Application, physical agility, and applicable certifications, licenses, etc. to be verified by City of Maumee.  
  4. Background Check: Candidate will be scheduled with Police Division for a Background/Web Check.
  5. 1st Interview: Once verification complete, 1st Interview will be scheduled.
  6. Written exam: If required by City, a candidate may be required to schedule and take a written exam located on the National Testing Network website.  More information to be provided if applicable. 
  7. 2nd Interview: 2nd Interview will be scheduled, if necessary. 
  8. City Administrator Review and Approval for Conditional Employment
  9. Physical: Schedule an Ohio Police and Fire Pension Physical.  This includes a stress test, lab work, pulmonary function test, chest x-ray, hearing test, physical exam, and drug test.
  10. Council Approval: Candidate sworn in by Maumee City Council, and hired with minimum One-Year Probation. 
  11. Complete City of Maumee New Hire/On-board Process
  12. Begin Orientation with Maumee Fire Division.

Schedule and Benefits Information

  • Salary $71,691 to $86,983 annually.
  • 24/48 Schedule, 48 hour work week, with 17 Kelly Days.
  • 12 Paid Holidays, 2 Personal Days, 4 Vacation Days, and 6.5 Sick Days earned per year.

Since 1838, the Fire Division has been committed to the protection of our highly supportive community.  We are a professional service, and serve with pride and honor.  The Fire Division has evolved into a new full-time fire department offering top-notch pay, benefits, and training.  We respond to over 2,500 calls annually, including mutual and auto aid, in a growing city of mixed residential, recreational, commercial, and industrial areas.  We provide our services based out of one fire station, and seek to staff our new 3 platoon shifts (A/B/C) with 8 full-time personnel each (24 total).  The Fire Chief oversees the MFD, along with two Deputy Chiefs, and Fire Safety Inspector, and part-time personnel.  We have 1 engine, 1 Heavy Rescue, 2 Ladders, 3 Medics, 2 Rescue Boats, 1 Jet Ski, and several other support vehicles.  We alsohave a large Public Safety Training Center set on 10 acres, including one of the areas only Class A burn buildings.  Above all, our excellent team of paramedics and firefighters have many years of combined experience, training, and street knowledge, and are ready to mentor and work with you!
