SUMMARY:Play Set at Ford Field Ribbon Cutting
DESCRIPTION:The City of Maumee\, in partnership with the Maumee Chamber of Commerce\, invites the community to a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the new playset at Robert Hoag Ford Field. The event will take place on Wednesday\, October 22\, at 4 PM at Ford Field\, located on the corner of Ford Street and the Anthony Wayne Trail.  \nThe new Nature Play Treehouse features exciting elements for children of all ages\, including two enclosed spiral tube slides\, a rock-climbing wall\, and a crawl-through log tunnel. In addition\, a rubber surface material provides a more durable and long-lasting option to better serve children and adults with all abilities.  \nThe new play structure has been in the works since early 2024. In preparation for the playset\, city crews addressed flooding issues by installing a new storm sewer. They also graded the site and installed concrete curbs and a six-foot-wide walkway connecting the backfield to the Ford Street restrooms. The City received a $91\,544 NatureWorks grant to offset the expenses.  \nThe Nature Play Treehouse is among the many upgrades to the baseball field. In addition to the play structure\, the installation of a new basketball court with two adjustable hoops has been installed. At a size slightly larger than the typical half-court\, the basketball court allows greater access for green space and the new play structure. New dugouts have also been installed in the backfield\, and a second storage building will be constructed to accommodate more equipment and increased activity at the ball diamonds.  \nWHAT: Ribbon Cutting at the new Nature Play Treehouse play structure  \nWHEN: Wednesday\, October 22\, 2025  \nTIME: 4:00 p.m.  \nLOCATION: Robert Hoag Ford Field\, 509 Ford Street  \nCONTACT: Nancy Gagnet\, Maumee Public Information Officer: 419.360.8466 ngagnet@maumee.org

SUMMARY:Arbor Day Tree Planting
DESCRIPTION:Environmental & Tree Advisory Commission to Hold Arbor Day Tree Planting \nMAUMEE\, OH –  The Maumee  Environmental and Tree Advisory Commission will honor Arbor Day with a special tree-planting ceremony at the Wolcott Heritage Center. \n\nThe tree planting will happen on the Wolcott campus near the Monclova Country Church\, where 30 red bud trees have recently been planted. The trees offer an abundance of benefits\, such as improved air quality\, enhanced aesthetics\, and wildlife habitats. Trees also support stormwater management because the canopy and root systems help slow down and absorb stormwater runoff\, which is especially important in Maumee\, given our initiative to reduce the amount of inflow and infiltration into our sanitary sewer system. \n\nThe two rows of red bud trees\, which is also known as an allée\, showcases the many new trees that have been planted on the Wolcott grounds. Maumee Mayor Jim MacDonald will present a proclamation and members of the commission will be on hand to answer questions about the tree planting program at the Wolcott Heritage Center and throughout the city. \n\nArbor Day was founded in Nebraska in 1872 as a special day set aside for the planting of trees. \n\nWHAT:                                     Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony \nWHEN:                                    Friday\, April 25\, 2025 \nTIME:                                        10:00 a.m. \nLOCATION:                          The Wolcott Heritage Campus\, 1035 River Rd. SUMMARY:Mini Forest Tree Planting
DESCRIPTION:Maumee’s Mini Forest Tree Planting Program Kicks Off On Earth Day \nMAUMEE\, OH –  The Maumee  Environmental and Tree Advisory Commission will celebrate Earth Day by initiating the planting of a mini forest. \n\nThe mini forest planting project will be phased in over several years on a unique pocket of city-owned land located near a cul-de-sac at Valley Grove Drive near the Ohio Turnpike. The Maumee  Environmental and Tree Advisory Commission is spearheading the project in an area that once housed a tennis court. \n\nThe mini forest will act as a self-sustaining ecosystem and add value to the area. In addition to serving as a sound barrier for the noise coming from the turnpike\, the mini forest will help to improve air quality\, enrich the soil\, and enhance the biodiversity of insects and pollinators. It will also enhance stormwater management because the canopy and root systems help slow down and absorb stormwater runoff\, which is especially important in Maumee\, given our initiative to reduce the amount of inflow and infiltration (I&I) into our sanitary sewer system. \n\nThe Mini Forest project is being funded in part by generous donations of $1\,000 each from North Branch Nursery and Maumee ProMow\, and $750 from The Andersons. Members of the Maumee Environmental & Tree Advisory Commission will join with volunteers to begin planting the mini forest on Tuesday\, April 22\, 2025\, at 10:00 a.m. \n\nCall to Action: Volunteers Needed \nIn the first planting year\, the mini forest is slated to have up to 200 shrubs and trees\, including natives such as red and black chokeberry\, button bush\, dogwood shrubs\, black gum\, bur oak\, American elderberry\, and more. Volunteers are needed to help with planting on April 22. All volunteers are asked to bring a shovel\, a pronged rake (not a leaf rake)\, and a 5-gallon bucket. \n\nWHAT:                                     Mini Forest Tree Planting in Maumee Kicks Off on Arbor Day \nWHEN:                                    Tuesday\, April 22\, 2025 \nTIME:                                        Planting begins at 10 a.m. \nLOCATION:                          Vacant land near the cul-de-sac at Valley Grove Drive by Ohio Turnpike \nCONTACT:                           Bill Buri\, Maumee Tree Specialist:  419.265.7179 | buri-bill@maumee.org
