The City of Maumee, in partnership with the Maumee Chamber of Commerce, invites the community to a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the new playset at Robert Hoag Ford Field. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 22, at 4 PM at Ford Field, located on the corner of Ford Street and the Anthony Wayne Trail.

The new Nature Play Treehouse features exciting elements for children of all ages, including two enclosed spiral tube slides, a rock-climbing wall, and a crawl-through log tunnel. In addition, a rubber surface material provides a more durable and long-lasting option to better serve children and adults with all abilities.

The new play structure has been in the works since early 2024. In preparation for the playset, city crews addressed flooding issues by installing a new storm sewer. They also graded the site and installed concrete curbs and a six-foot-wide walkway connecting the backfield to the Ford Street restrooms. The City received a $91,544 NatureWorks grant to offset the expenses.

The Nature Play Treehouse is among the many upgrades to the baseball field. In addition to the play structure, the installation of a new basketball court with two adjustable hoops has been installed. At a size slightly larger than the typical half-court, the basketball court allows greater access for green space and the new play structure. New dugouts have also been installed in the backfield, and a second storage building will be constructed to accommodate more equipment and increased activity at the ball diamonds.
