Maumee Fire Division members have many types of education
and training from schools throughout the country, including:
Professional Firefighter, Basic Level Firefighter, Basic
Emergency Medical Technician and paramedic Training.
Firefighters are trained in hazardous material handling,
confined space rescue, heavy rescue and rope rescue. In
the spring, emphasis is placed on water/river rescue training
due to the influx of fishermen during walleye season in the
Maumee River. People, both local and from out of town,
do not realize how strong the current and undertow
is.

The Fire Division meets as a whole on each Tuesday. The
first Tuesday following the first Monday is the monthly
business meeting. The second and third Tuesdays of the month
are drill nights, and the fourth Tuesday is clean up. There
are morning drills for those who cannot attend night drills.
Morning drills are from 0900 to 1100 hours and night hours are
1830 to 2030 hours. Drills range from SCBA, to ladders, to
disaster, to arson training, and anything else that would
better educate and give hands-on experience to the
firefighters. Clean-up on the fourth Tuesday is the time the
department makes sure that all the vehicles and the equipment
on them are in good working order. This is also done after
every fire response.
Heavy Rescue Training - This group drills on the second
Monday of the month. They train on extrication using a variety
of equipment including air bags, high rise jacks, electric
powered, air powered and hydraulic tools. They train on
extrications from cars, buses, vans and other vehicles.
Engineers - This group drills on the third Monday of the
month. They train on hydrant locations, water movement,
drivers training and operation of the vehicles. They also take
care of the basic maintenance of all the vehicles, including
oil changes, radiator flushes and greasing.
Rope Rescue - This group drills once a month. They train at the City's water tower and at the grain
elevators located in the City. They train on anchor points,
self-rescue, controlled descent, rappelling and high angle/low
angle rescue.

Dive Team - Meets once a month to check equipment and
insure everything is in working order. During the summer
months the Team goes to area quarries for training
dives.
The Chief of the Firefighting Bureau is in charge of
training and has a support
staff of 8 instructors. Drills, for the most part, are
planned at the beginning of each year with input from the Fire
Chief and other Chief officers.
