All new
construction within commercial buildings must be permitted prior to
work being conducted. Construction documents are submitted for
approval. The blueprints are reviewed by the City of Maumee Building
Department to insure all work is according to all applicable codes
and ordinances. Fire Prevention personnel also review the plans
ensure fire code rules and regulations are adhered to.
A preliminary
plans review process is extremely helpful to a developer, builder or
property owner and welcomed by the City of Maumee. In many cases
this process has reduced the cost of the project considerably due to
the fact that any discrepancies are found early on.

FIRE
SAFETY INSPECTIONS
At the
time of a new business opening, personnel from the Fire Prevention
Bureau and the Building Department jointly visit the building and
review it for structural building and fire code compliance. Once
this has been accomplished, the Fire Prevention Bureau personnel
visit the business on a semi-annual or annual visit to make sure the
business stays in compliance with the codes. There is NO charge for these semi-annual inspections.
The
Maumee Fire Prevention Bureau, as permitted by City Codified
Ordinances, utilizes through adoption the Ohio Fire Code (OFC), and
the National Fire Protection Association's National Fire Codes rules
and standards for enforcement of the fire regulations for the City
of Maumee's jurisdictional boundaries.
PERMIT
INFORMATION

annual fee. These

KNOX
BOX PROGRAM (LOCK BOX)
The City of Maumee enacted a Knox Box (a fire department
lock box) ordinance over 10 years ago, and the program has been very
successful. The program
was created to assist fire department personnel to gain immediate
entry into commercial or industrial buildings in an emergency after
normal business hours.
Knox boxes are required in all new construction and
existing structures with a change of occupancy or installation of
fire protection systems. Knox
boxes must be purchased by the owner/occupant.
For more information on ordering, or to update keys in
